Having knowledge of the 34 themes makes it fun and interesting to know what other's strengths are. This knowledge allows you to have a label for what you already knew was there. For instance, one of our staff members fixes things all the time and even if it isn't broken they find a way to make it better. When I learned more about the 34 themes it became obvious that Restorative was one of her strengths.
As I have also become an enthusiastic Heroes fan, and a person passionate about IvyStrengths, I was interested in Lori's "Strengths and Heroes" blog and could immediately see the connection (My #2 Strength = Connectedness). So I decided to try and discover the Heroes Top 5.
Hiro's Top 5
Connectedness : Context : Futuristic : Positivity : Relator
Hiro can teleport and time travel. He connects the future to the past. He wants to save the world. Hiro is almost always optimistic about how the future can be changed. He connects to each person around him. His closest friend Ando goes with Hiro on his quest to save the world.
Claire's Top 5
Restorative : Relator : Futuristic : Adaptability : Responsibility
Claire can regenerate herself. She can't die; well she can, but she always comes back to life. Claire is adopted by the Bennett's. She doesn't like feeling alone, as if no one knows who she really is. Because of the life changing events that are constantly happening in Claire's life, she begins to go with the flow as opposed to getting angry and dwelling on things she can't change. Although Claire seems unsure as to what it is, she knows she has a purpose and wants to do her part to save the world.
Sylar's Top 5
Signifigance : Input : Woo : Competition : Learner
Sylar's original power is still foggy to me, I think it is an incredible understanding of how things work. Sylar wants to be seen as special, he wants this so bad that he will do anything to make himself feel special. This includes deceiving and manipulating people to help him find other Heroes so that he can take their power. No matter how many different powers Sylar takes he always wants more; he is never "special" enough.
Peter's Top 5
Adaptability : Connectedness : Responsibility : Harmony : Belief
Peter absorbs other Heroes' powers. Once he meets a new Hero, he just thinks of that person and can use their power. It is important to mention that Peter doesn't take the power. Peter feels like he is where he is for a reason. He knows that he must be the one to save the cheerleader.
If you get a chance to watch the show, you may notice that Sylar and Peter seem to be the basement and balcony of strengths.

When we were discussing Heroes and Strengths, my husband had a great idea. Marcus Buckingham, are you listening? If you want a Strenghts revolution in this country, market the program in this way - Top 5 of famous people and favorite characters. I think the general public would love to know if they share signature themes with famous people.
