OK, so you have been here for a week. I bet some of you are sitting here thinking "what did I get myself into?"  Well stop, take a deep breath, and remember all the reasons you had to go to Ivy Tech.  For me it was the fact they are the leading school in Indiana.  They offer lots of classes that I can fit around my schedule, and the price was right.  I also wanted a future.  That being the biggest reason of all.  It takes a lot to be able to do this.  You really have to want it.  It's funny; when I feel like quiting I go to a fast food restaurant and tell myself that if I quit I will be spending the rest of my life here.  Then I pick myself back up and go on.

You need a support system;someone to tell you to open that book when you would rather watch that one TV show or take that shopping trip you have been thinking about all day.  Family and friends are great, or get the kids in the act. Our kids can be our biggest fans if we give them the chance.

Hang in there and remember, even on that one bad day, it is still so worth it in the long run.

Have Hope Single Parents

Ok, so you are all ready to go back to school right?  NOT!  It is so hard to go back to school as an adult any way, but even harder as a single parent.  Between work, bills, kids, everyday house things, and then classes and homework: "where is the time supposed to come from?"  I know one thing, you CAN do it.

One of the good things about Ivy Tech is they do offer classes to meet anyone's time crunch. Day, evening, weekend and on-line classes; who could ask for more? (Besides someone else to do it ,lol).

The people who work at Ivy Tech understand what you are going through.  Most of the student body is made up of older adults.  Adults who have lives but have made the commitment to themselves to get a better education.  The more you involve the Elkhart team, the more they can fill the roll of your best cheerleader, to help keep you going.

This blog is to serve the purpose of giving a little help with the struggles you are and will be facing as you continue on this great journey. To offer help and encouragement or hey, even a place to blow off a little steam.

I look forward to this new semester and talking to all of you.
